Check the batch code

Every legitimately produced bottle carries a manufacturer batch code, usually printed or engraved on the bottom of the box or the base of the bottle itself. This code ties the bottle back to a specific production run. Authorized retailers can trace it; counterfeiters generally can't reproduce it correctly, or skip it altogether. If a listing doesn't mention batch verification at all, that's worth asking about before you buy.

Look at the price relative to the market

A genuine discount is usually 20-50% off retail, driven by bulk purchasing, overstock, or direct relationships with distributors. A bottle priced at 80-90% off a well-known, high-demand fragrance is a red flag more often than a bargain.

Check the packaging details

Font weight, box texture, cellophane wrapping, and even the glue pattern sealing the box can differ on counterfeit stock. If you've smelled or held the real thing before, small inconsistencies tend to stand out.

Buy from retailers who explain their sourcing

Authorized channels, batch code checks, and a real return policy are the three things worth looking for on any perfume site before you buy — discount or not. If a store can explain exactly how they verify authenticity, that's a good sign. If a store can't or won't answer the question, that's the answer.
